Under the tongue

Performance by Carola Demarchi and Eugenia Ingenio. On the occasion of Corpi sul palco, curated and presented by Andrea Contin. Under the Tongue takes place in the darkness of the audience seating. Two performers move among the spectators, approaching individuals and whispering brief, ambiguous phrases into their ears, like secrets without origin. The performance is rooted in a writing process: texts composed as dense, symbolic fragments meant to be whispered. Rather than telling a story, the voices activate an intimate, somatic experience. The audience is given flashlights and can choose whether to illuminate the performers, making visibility a relational act. The theater becomes a space of radical proximity, where the boundaries between visible and invisible, stranger and familiar, blur. What remains is the trace of a voice too close—something that seems to emerge from under the tongue. Photo by Simone Falso
